AN MP denounced yesterday the US Embassy denial of claims that a Bahraini detainee at Guantanamo Bay was sexually humiliated, saying the prison camp should be closed.
"The American policy in Afghanistan and Iraq has proven without any doubt that there were all kinds of methods being used to get confessions from prisoners of war and detainees," MP Mohammed Khalid said in a statement.
"What about the Guantanamo prison, which is out of the sight of all rights and humanitarian organisations, where the matter could be worse than Abu Ghraib or Afghanistan."
He said many of the prisoners from the Arab and Western countries released from Guantanamo Bay had talked about being submitted to human suffering and sexual abuse during interrogation.
Mr Khalid called on the US Embassy to advise its leadership to improve its image in the world by closing the Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay prisons, which he said were similar to Nazi prisons.
"Only then the image of the American leadership will improve."
The embassy issued a statement on Tuesday denying allegations the Juma Al Dossary was sexually humiliated as part of a campaign of systematic abuse. This claim was dismissed by his lawyers, he maintained that Mr Al Dossary was beaten and humiliated, which was corroborated by US military personnel.
