By Manzoor Ali Shah

PESHAWAR: A group led by Taliban commander Qari Amin Shah has claimed responsibility for the abduction of Canadian national Khadija Qahaar, Daily Times learnt on Friday.

Khadija was abducted on Tuesday from Jani Khel area in the Bannu frontier region along with her three local companions.

Government sources told Daily Times that Shah was learnt to have demanded Rs 10 million as ransom.

They said that a jirga of around 40-50 people, including Shah, was in progress in Zindi Akbar Khan village in the limits of Hoveed police station, when two men riding a motorcycle arrived.

They informed the commander about the Canadian women on which Qari Amin, along with 14 other companions, left the jirga to abduct her.

They said Khadija had left for Bannu in a taxi along with her three companions on November 12. The Taliban moved them to an undisclosed location and the taxi driver was allowed to leave.
