Zakah and the Forgotten Islamic Obligation Towards Prisoners
17-09-2009
The history of Islam is replete with stories of men and women facing imprisonment and abuse at the hands of oppressors. The chapter of the Prophet Yusuf [a] vividly illustrates how dealing with unjust imprisonment is not only inherent to the heritage of monotheistic tradition but, both the Old Testament [Torah] and the Quran - and hence, Judaism, Christianity and Islam - would be incomplete without it.

The Importance of Small Actions
09-03-2009
After the news this week that Farid Hilali had been freed on bail, this had me thinking. For those unaware, he is a muslim from Morocco originally, who was falsely accused of terrorism offences. He was first arrested in 2003 in the United Kingdom, and then held for five years, without charge, before being extradited to Spain in 2008 where he has still not been given a trial. I was then delighted to hear last week that he had been freed on bail whilst he awaits the Spanish judicial authorities to formally present a court date.

The Aafia Siddiqui I Saw
20-08-2008
During the time of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم), those who entered Islam were of two types: those who remained in their lands with the general populace practicing the basic tenets of the religion, and those who took it upon themselves to migrate and join the Prophet in his expeditions.

When Hearts Incline
17-08-2008
“You don’t care about me. No one cares about me,” said the teenage boy, nearly whimpering, grief-stricken. His emotional, agonized pleas clashed starkly with the mechanic voice of his interrogator. Then, left alone, his sobs and weeping calls for his mother filled the bare, metallic room. All seemed hopeless.
